4 days in Slovenian Styria: Celje old town and castle, the hop ecomuseum and beer fountain of Žalec, and the spa of Laško.
Celje, Slovenia's third city, was in the Middle Ages the seat of the powerful Counts of Celje, whose old castle still overlooks the Savinja valley. Your group stays 3 nights in Celje and explores its old town on foot, its regional museum and famous painted ceiling, then the castle ruins. The second day is devoted to the hop valley: the ecomuseum and beer fountain in Žalec, then Laško, a small spa and brewing town by the river. Distances are short, visits are relaxed and a dip in the thermal baths is offered as an option. Two drivers take turns on the outward and return journeys so that the long trip stays comfortable.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to Slovenia
- Early morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice, with two drivers on board.
- Route through Germany and Austria, across the Alps.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Coffee break on the way and free lunch at a service area or roadside restaurant.
- Arrival in Celje in the evening and check-in at the hotel for 3 nights.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Celje, town of the Counts
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Guided tour of the old town of Celje, former seat of the Counts of Celje (on request).
- Discovery of the Celje painted ceiling at the regional museum (on request).
- Lunch in a restaurant (on request).
- In the afternoon, excursion to the old castle of Celje, one of the largest in Slovenia, with a short uphill walk (on request).
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Žalec and Laško
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Žalec (about 15 minutes), capital of Slovenian hops.
- Visit to the ecomuseum of hops and beer (on request).
- Tasting at the Žalec beer fountain (on request).
- Lunch in a restaurant (on request).
- In the afternoon, Laško, a small spa and brewing town on the river Savinja.
- Bathing at the Laško thermal baths (on request).
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Morning departure with two drivers on board.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Return to your region late in the evening.
