5 days in the Slovenian Karst: Postojna Cave by little train, Predjama Castle, the horses of Lipica, Štanjel and the Škocjan Caves.
The Slovenian Karst, a limestone plateau between the Alps and the Adriatic, hides some of Europe's finest caves beneath its meadows. Your group stays 4 nights in the same hotel and discovers Postojna Cave, much of which is visited aboard a little electric train, then Predjama Castle, built into a cliff face. The white horses of the Lipica stud farm, the stone village of Štanjel and the UNESCO-listed Škocjan Caves complete the stay. Karst ham and wines from the Vipava valley accompany the optional tastings. Two drivers take turns on the outward and return journeys so that this long trip stays comfortable, with regular breaks.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to Slovenia
- Early morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice, with two drivers on board.
- Route through Germany and Austria, across the Alps.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Coffee break on the way and free lunch at a service area or roadside restaurant.
- Arrival in the Slovenian Karst in the evening and check-in at the hotel for 4 nights.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Postojna and Predjama
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Postojna Cave.
- Visit to Postojna Cave, partly aboard a little electric underground train (on request).
- Lunch in a restaurant (on request).
- In the afternoon, stop at Predjama Castle, built into a rock face.
- Visit inside Predjama Castle, with many steps (on request).
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Lipica and Štanjel
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Lipica (about 45 minutes), home of the Lipizzaner horses since 1580.
- Visit to the Lipica stud farm with a presentation of the horses (on request).
- Lunch in a restaurant (on request).
- In the afternoon, Štanjel, a Karst stone village perched on its hill.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: Škocjan and the Vipava valley
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to the Škocjan Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Guided tour of the Škocjan Caves, about 3 km of walking with stairs (on request).
- Lunch in a restaurant (on request).
- Tasting of Karst ham and wines from the Vipava valley (on request).
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 5: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Morning departure with two drivers on board.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Return to your region late in the evening.

- Walking level: moderate; wheelchairs and reduced mobility: please let us know when booking.
- Recommended from April to October; inside the caves it is about 10 to 12 °C all year round: bring a jacket and good shoes; the Škocjan Caves and Predjama Castle have many steps.
