Two days between Lorraine and Alsace: the hand-blown glass Christmas baubles of Meisenthal, then the Christmas market of Haguenau.

In the Northern Vosges, the small village of Meisenthal keeps alive a tradition born among its glassmakers: the hand-blown glass Christmas bauble. The International Centre for Glass Art, housed in the old glassworks, creates a new design every year and opens a seasonal sales area that attracts enthusiasts from the whole region. Your group discovers the glassmaking site and its Glass and Crystal Museum, then spends the night nearby, without a long drive. The next day, Haguenau, an Alsatian town with a rich imperial past, welcomes the group for its Christmas market and a seated lunch. A trip of craftsmanship and tradition, at a gentle pace and with little walking.

Programme

Day 1: Journey to Meisenthal and the glassmaking site

  • Morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice, at a time suited to your region.
  • Comfortable coach journey: our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break.
  • Free lunch on the way.
  • Arrival in Meisenthal in the early afternoon.
  • Guided tour of the glassmaking site and the Glass and Crystal Museum (on request).
  • Glassblowing demonstration, depending on the season’s schedule (on request).
  • Free time at the display and sales area for the Christmas baubles.
  • Check-in at the hotel in the Bitche area or the Haguenau region.
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2: Christmas in Haguenau and return

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Short drive to Haguenau.
  • Guided tour of the historic centre of Haguenau (on request).
  • Free time at the Christmas market in the town centre.
  • Seated lunch in an Alsatian restaurant (on request).
  • Return journey in the early afternoon, with regular breaks.
  • Return in the evening to your region.

Good to know

  • Valid identity card and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each participant; bring your usual medication.

  • Walking level: easy; glassmaking site mostly on one level, flat centre in Haguenau. Wheelchair users or people with reduced mobility: please let us know when booking.
  • The Meisenthal Christmas baubles are displayed and sold from mid-November to late December; christmas markets: from late November to late December, to be checked each year; bring warm clothing.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
