A day in Arras: the Christmas market on the Grand-Place with its Flemish façades, the belfry and gingerbread hearts, at a gentle pace.

Less than two hours from the border, Arras hosts one of the largest Christmas markets in northern France, set up on the Grand-Place among its Flemish-style gabled façades. Your group arrives in the late morning, without a long journey, and enjoys a seated lunch in the warmth before strolling among the chalets. The town hall belfry, a UNESCO World Heritage site together with the belfries of Belgium and France, can be climbed by lift for the view over the town. History lovers can go down into the “boves”, old quarries dug beneath the squares. The squares are cobbled but flat, and generous free time lets everyone taste mulled wine and the gingerbread hearts of Arras.

Programme

  • Morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice, at a time suited to your region.

  • Arrival in Arras in the late morning, with the coach dropping you as close as possible to the centre.
  • Seated lunch in a restaurant in the centre (on request).
  • Free time at the Christmas market on the Grand-Place, among chalets, lights and entertainment.
  • Guided tour of the town hall and lift up the belfry (on request).
  • Guided tour of the boves, the town’s underground passages (on request).
  • Stroll on the Place des Héros and free tasting of the gingerbread hearts of Arras.
  • Departure in the late afternoon, at nightfall, after a last walk among the illuminated chalets.
  • Return in the evening to your region.

Good to know

  • Valid identity card and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each participant; bring your usual medication.
  • Departure and return times adapted to your group’s pick-up point; trip available from 20 participants, on the date of your choice, price on quotation.
  • Walking level: easy; the two main squares are flat but cobbled, and the boves and the top of the belfry (after the lift) involve steps. Wheelchair users or people with reduced mobility: please let us know when booking.
  • Christmas markets: from late November to late December, to be checked each year; bring warm clothing.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
