A 10-day stay in Nieuwpoort: harbour, beach, Yser memory in Diksmuide, Veurne, Bruges, Ostend and Ghent, with free days.
With its large marina and wide beach, Nieuwpoort is a quiet resort, ideal for a long stay by the North Sea. It is also here that in 1914 the opening of the sluice gates flooded the Yser plain and halted the German advance, a story told at the Westfront Nieuwpoort centre, below the King Albert I monument. Your group stays nine nights in the same 3-star hotel with lift, on half board, alternating short excursions with free days: Diksmuide and its Yser Tower, Veurne, Ostend, Bruges and Ghent. The pace is deliberately gentle, with journeys of under an hour and a half and long moments of relaxation. A complete stay to discover the whole coast without ever rushing.
Programme
Day 1: Drive to Nieuwpoort
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Drive to the coast (our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break).
- Check-in at the hotel for 9 nights and stroll on the seafront.
Day 2: Nieuwpoort
- Stroll around the marina and along the pier.
- Visit of the Westfront Nieuwpoort centre, below the King Albert I monument (on request)
- Free afternoon on the beach.
Day 3: Diksmuide
- Visit of the Yser Tower and its museum, with lift (on request)
- Lunch booked in Diksmuide (on request)
- Stop at the Trench of Death, a preserved First World War trench.
Day 4: Ostend
- Excursion to Ostend: seafront, Royal Galleries and harbour district.
- Fish lunch in a harbour restaurant (on request)
- Return to Nieuwpoort in mid-afternoon.
Day 5: Free day
- Free day in Nieuwpoort (driver’s rest day).
- Coast Tram pass (on request)
Day 6: Bruges
- Coach excursion to Bruges.
- Canal boat trip (on request)
- Lunch booked in a restaurant in the centre (on request)
- Free time and return to the hotel.
Day 7: Veurne and De Panne
- Morning in Veurne: market square, town hall and belfry.
- Afternoon in De Panne and a stroll on its wide beach.
Day 8: Ghent
- Coach excursion to Ghent.
- Guided tour of St Bavo’s Cathedral and the Mystic Lamb (on request)
- Free time on the Graslei quays, then return to the hotel.
Day 9: Free time
- Free day to enjoy the beach and the harbour.
- Farewell dinner at the hotel.
Day 10: Return
- Breakfast, then departure in the late morning.
- Return journey (our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break).
- Arrival in your area in the late afternoon.
