A day in Monschau, a half-timbered town in the Eifel: 18th-century cloth makers, glassblowers and a mustard mill.
Nestled in the Rur valley, a few kilometres from the Belgian border and the High Fens, Monschau has kept its half-timbered houses and cobbled lanes. In the 18th century the town grew rich on fine cloth, as shown by the Red House, the home and workshop of a great family of cloth makers. Pupils also discover the work of glassblowers and how a historic mustard mill works, from the seeds to the jar. A nearby, concrete and lively outing about the crafts of the past, ideal for pupils aged 8 to 12.
