Metz at a gentle pace: the cathedral with Chagall windows, the Centre Pompidou-Metz, the station and the Imperial Quarter by little train.
Capital of Lorraine, Metz surprises with its honey-coloured Jaumont stone, its Moselle riverbanks and its heritage from every era. Saint-Étienne Cathedral, nicknamed the “Good Lord’s lantern”, has one of the largest areas of stained glass in Europe, including windows by Marc Chagall. The Imperial Quarter, built during the German period, and its monumental station offer a very different setting, which the little tourist train lets you discover without tiring. After a seated lunch, the Centre Pompidou-Metz and its large white roof host fine exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. The centre is flat and pleasant to explore, with many terraces for a break.
