4 days in Maribor: the world’s oldest vine, the Lent district on the Drava, Styrian wines and the old town of Ptuj.
Slovenia’s second city, Maribor stretches along the Drava between vine-covered hills and an old town with lively squares. On a façade in the Lent district grows the Old Vine, more than 400 years old and recognised as the oldest vine in the world still bearing fruit. Your group discovers it with a guide before tasting the Styrian white wines that are the pride of the region. The next day you head to Ptuj, the country’s oldest town, crowned by its castle and less than an hour away. Two drivers take turns on the way out and back to keep the stay short, and your 3-star hotel with lift welcomes you for 3 nights on half board.
Programme
Day 1: Drive to Maribor
- Early-morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice, with two drivers taking turns.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break.
- Drive through Germany and Austria, lunch at leisure on the way.
- Evening arrival in Maribor, check-in for 3 nights and dinner.
Day 2: Maribor and the Old Vine
- Guided tour of the old town: main square, plague column and cathedral (on request).
- Visit of the Old Vine House in the Lent district (on request).
- Lunch in a restaurant by the Drava (on request).
- Tasting of Styrian wines in a city cellar (on request).
- Free time on the riverside, dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: Ptuj, Slovenia’s oldest town
- Coach excursion to Ptuj.
- Guided tour of the old town and its squares (on request).
- Visit of Ptuj Castle and its collections (on request).
- Lunch in the old town (on request).
- Back to Maribor in mid-afternoon, free time and farewell dinner at the hotel.
Day 4: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast, then return drive with two drivers.
- Lunch at leisure on the way.
- Return to your area late in the evening.
