Three Christmas days in Overijssel: Zwolle and Kampen, illuminated Hanseatic towns, and Giethoorn with its canals and thatched farmhouses.
The old Hanseatic towns of Overijssel are wonderfully suited to the Advent atmosphere, with their fortified gates, imposing churches and illuminated shopping streets. In Zwolle, your group strolls between the Sassenpoort, the Peperbus tower and the Christmas stalls in the centre. On the second day, car-free Giethoorn, the “Venice of the North”, is discovered in peaceful winter calm, on foot along the canals or aboard a covered boat. In the afternoon, Kampen and its gates on the IJssel offer a final stroll under the lights. With two nights in the same hotel and short drives, the trip stays peaceful.
Programme
Day 1: Zwolle
- Morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice; our drivers drive for no more than 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break.
- Coffee break on the way.
- Arrival in Zwolle in the early afternoon.
- Seated lunch in the centre (on request).
- Guided tour of Zwolle: Sassenpoort, Peperbus and Grote Kerk (on request).
- Free time at the Christmas market and in the illuminated streets.
- Check-in at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Giethoorn and Kampen
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Giethoorn and stroll along the canals and thatched farmhouses.
- Covered boat trip on the canals of Giethoorn (on request).
- Seated lunch in Giethoorn (on request).
- In the afternoon, stroll in Kampen along the IJssel and its old gates, with free time in the illuminated centre.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3: Zwolle and return
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Last free morning in Zwolle.
- Seated lunch in Zwolle (on request).
- Return journey with regular breaks, arriving back in your region in the evening.

- Christmas markets and events in the Netherlands take place from late November to late December, to be checked each year: some last only a few days; bring warm clothing. Easy walking on flat ground; cobbles and little bridges in Giethoorn, paths sometimes damp in winter.
