A Christmas day in northern Luxembourg: Vianden Castle, then the Echternach Christmas market near its basilica.

The north of the Grand Duchy offers a more intimate Christmas than the big cities. In Vianden, the castle perched above the Our is one of the finest in Europe and can be visited indoors, nice and warm. Your group then heads to Echternach, the oldest town in the country, where the market square and the Basilica of Saint Willibrord make a lovely setting for the Advent chalets. The two small towns are linked by a short coach ride, with an optional restaurant lunch and relaxed stops. It is a gentle, human-sized day, far from the big crowds.

Programme

  • Morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice.
  • Coach journey with breaks: our drivers drive for no more than 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break.
  • Arrival in Vianden in late morning; the coach drives up as close to the castle as possible.
  • Visit of Vianden Castle, with its restored halls and views over the Our valley (on request).
  • On some December weekends, the castle hosts a medieval Christmas market: dates to be checked each year.
  • Lunch in a restaurant in Vianden or Echternach (on request).
  • Short drive to Echternach, in the heart of the Mullerthal, “Luxembourg’s Little Switzerland”.
  • Free time at the Christmas market on the market square and free visit of the Basilica of Saint Willibrord.
  • Departure in late afternoon, with a break along the way.
  • Return to your region in the evening.

Good to know

  • Valid identity card and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each participant.
  • Departure and return times adapted to your group’s pick-up point; programme quoted on request from 20 participants.
  • Walking level: easy to moderate; a few steps and cobblestones at the castle and in the old streets.
  • Christmas markets run from late November to late December: dates to be checked each year; bring warm clothing.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
