Five days of glassmaking tradition: the Liberec Christmas market, the glass-bead decorations of Poniklá, Jablonec, Erfurt and Dresden.
North Bohemia is the land of glass, and its Christmas traditions show it. In Poniklá, at the foot of the Giant Mountains, the Rautis workshop handcrafts Christmas tree decorations from blown glass beads, a skill inscribed in 2020 on UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Your group also discovers Jablonec nad Nisou and its Museum of Glass and Jewellery, then the Christmas market of Liberec, in front of a fairy-tale neo-Renaissance town hall. The journey is broken by two charming German stops: Erfurt and its Cathedral Square market on the way out, and Dresden with its Striezelmarkt, one of the oldest in Germany, on the way back. The visits are easy, but the last day remains a long day on the road.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to Erfurt
- Morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice, at a time suited to your region.
- Comfortable coach journey: our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break.
- Free lunch on the way.
- Arrival in Erfurt in the late afternoon and check-in at the hotel.
- Free stroll at the Christmas market on Cathedral Square.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2: Arrival in Liberec
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to North Bohemia via Dresden (about 4 hours).
- Arrival in Liberec in the early afternoon and check-in at the hotel for 2 nights.
- Free time at the Christmas market on the town hall square.
- Guided tour of Liberec town hall (on request).
- Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3: Poniklá and Jablonec nad Nisou
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Poniklá, at the foot of the Giant Mountains (about 1 hour).
- Visit of the Rautis workshop and demonstration of glass-bead decoration making (on request).
- Seated lunch in a local restaurant (on request).
- Drive to Jablonec nad Nisou.
- Visit of the Museum of Glass and Jewellery (on request).
- Return to Liberec in the late afternoon.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 4: Liberec and Dresden
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Free morning in Liberec.
- Drive to Dresden (about 1 hour 30 minutes) and check-in at the hotel.
- Guided tour of Dresden’s old town: Frauenkirche, Zwinger and Semper Opera (on request).
- Free late afternoon at the Striezelmarkt on the Altmarkt.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 5: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Morning departure for the longest travel day of the trip.
- Return journey with regular breaks and free lunch on the way.
- Return in the evening to your region.

- Walking level: easy; workshops and museums mostly on one level, flat town centres; some cobbles in Erfurt and Dresden. Wheelchair users or people with reduced mobility: please let us know when booking.
- Christmas markets: from late November to late December, to be checked each year; bring warm clothing; currency: Czech koruna (CZK), bank cards very widely accepted.
