Two days in South Holland: the great Christmas market of Dordrecht and the Gouda by Candlelight evening on the market square.
Dordrecht, the oldest town in Holland, hosts one of the largest Christmas markets in the Netherlands every year, with stalls winding along the quays and lanes of the old harbour. In Gouda, the Gouda bij Kaarslicht evening is a rare moment: the electric lights go out and thousands of candles light up the Gothic town hall and the market square around a tall Christmas tree. In between, your group tastes the local cheese and the famous stroopwafels. A single hotel night on half board and short distances make this trip very restful. The programme is built around the dates of these two events, which change every year.
Programme
Day 1: Gouda by candlelight
- Morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice.
- Our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break.
- Arrival in Gouda in the early afternoon.
- Lunch booked in a restaurant (on request)
- Tasting of Gouda cheese and stroopwafels (on request)
- Free time on the market square and in the decorated lanes.
- In the evening, attendance at the Gouda bij Kaarslicht celebration in front of the candlelit town hall.
- Short drive to the hotel for 1 night, dinner at the hotel.
Day 2: Dordrecht and return
- Breakfast at the hotel, then a short drive to Dordrecht.
- Free time at the Christmas market along the quays and streets of the old harbour.
- Guided tour of Dordrecht’s Great Church (Grote Kerk) (on request)
- Lunch booked in a restaurant (on request)
- Return journey in mid-afternoon.
- Return to your region in the evening.

- Gouda bij Kaarslicht takes place on one evening only, in mid-December, and the Dordrecht market for a few days in December: dates to be checked each year, the programme adapts to the calendar.
