Vianden’s medieval Christmas market as a group: a fortified castle, craftspeople in costume and an old town on the River Our.

Clinging to its hillside above the River Our, the small town of Vianden is crowned by one of Europe’s finest fortified castles, beautifully restored. For just a few days in December it hosts a medieval Christmas market, with craftspeople and traders in period costume, musicians and an old-time festive atmosphere. Your group then strolls down the cobbled Grand-Rue, past old houses and remains of the town walls, to the bridge over the Our. Victor Hugo stayed in Vianden in 1871, and his house near the bridge is now a museum. A journey back in time in the north of the Grand Duchy, from the departure point of your choice.

Programme

  • Morning departure from the location of your choice, with a break on the way.
  • Arrival in Vianden, in the Our valley in the north-east of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
  • Walk up to the castle and visit the medieval Christmas market: craftspeople, musicians and stalls in period costume.
  • Group lunch in a restaurant in the old town (on request).
  • Visit to the Victor Hugo House (on request).
  • Free time along the Grand-Rue and the River Our.
  • Return by coach at the end of the day to your region.

Good to know

  • A valid identity card is required for each participant.
  • The medieval Christmas market only runs for a few days in December: check the dates each year before fixing your trip; the path up to the castle is steep.
  • Departure and return times are adapted to your group’s pick-up point; bring warm clothes and comfortable shoes.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
