A Christmas day in Limburg: the markets set up in the caves of Valkenburg, then Magisch Maastricht on the Vrijthof.

Every winter, Valkenburg hosts unique Christmas markets set up in the underground galleries carved into the marl, sheltered from the cold and rain. The stalls, nativity scenes and illuminated sculptures give these caves a magical atmosphere, to be enjoyed without hurrying. In the afternoon, Maastricht lights up for Magisch Maastricht: stalls, a big wheel and an ice rink bring the Vrijthof to life, below the Basilica of Saint Servatius. With very little driving from Belgium, the day leaves time to stroll, enjoy a mulled wine and do your last shopping. Your coach waits as close as possible to the markets to avoid long walks.

  • Discovery of the Christmas market inside the municipal cave (Gemeentegrot), among stalls and nativity scenes.

  • Guided walk through the illuminated old town, from the Vrijthof to Onze Lieve Vrouweplein (on request)
  • Free time at the Magisch Maastricht market on the Vrijthof, with mulled wine and seasonal specialities.

Good to know

  • Valid identity card and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each participant.
  • Departure and return times adapted to your group's pick-up point. Walking level: easy.
  • The Valkenburg markets usually open from mid-November to the end of December, those in Maastricht from late November to the end of December: dates to be checked each year; bring warm clothing.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
