Seven Christmas days in Kraków: the Market Square fair, traditional nativity scenes, Wawel and Wieliczka Salt Mine.
At the foot of the Cloth Hall and St Mary’s Basilica, Kraków’s Christmas market sets up on one of the largest medieval squares in Europe. Kraków also has its own Christmas tradition, the szopki, glittering nativity scenes shaped like miniature churches, inscribed on UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage list and exhibited every winter. Your group also discovers Wawel Hill and goes down into the Wieliczka Salt Mine, where the great St Kinga’s Chapel and its salt chandeliers take on a special magic in December. Four nights in the same hotel in Kraków, a free day and an overnight stop near Dresden on the way out and back make this long trip comfortable.
