Nine days in Castile: Madrid’s museums, Toledo, city of three cultures, the Segovia aqueduct and Cervantes’s hometown.
This trip takes pupils into the heart of Spanish history. In Madrid they discover masterpieces by Velázquez and Goya at the Prado, Picasso’s Guernica at the Reina Sofía museum and the Royal Palace. Toledo, where Christians, Jews and Muslims long lived side by side, brings the idea of the city of three cultures to life, while the Roman aqueduct of Segovia shows the skill of ancient engineers. A visit to Alcalá de Henares, Cervantes’s birthplace, and to Burgos Cathedral, where El Cid is buried, completes the programme. It suits upper secondary pupils in Spanish, history, religious studies or art history.
