Five days on Lake Maggiore: the Borromean Islands by boat, the Villa Taranto gardens and the village of Orta San Giulio.
Lake Maggiore is one of the loveliest landscapes in northern Italy: calm waters, mountains in the background and flower gardens full of camellias, azaleas and palm trees. From your hotel in the Stresa area, your group takes the boat to the Borromean Islands: Isola Bella and its baroque palace, the Fishermen's Island and its little village, and Isola Madre with its botanical garden. One day is devoted to the more intimate Lake Orta, with the village of Orta San Giulio and its island. Travel is by coach and boat, with no long walks, and there is time to stroll along the lakeside promenade. Two drivers take turns on the outward and return journeys for a more comfortable trip.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to Lake Maggiore
- Early morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice, with two drivers on board.
- Route through Luxembourg, Alsace and Switzerland, then over the Simplon Pass.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Arrival in the Stresa area in the evening and check-in at the hotel for 4 nights.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: The Borromean Islands
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Boat crossing to the Borromean Islands.
- Visit to the Borromeo Palace and its terraced gardens on Isola Bella (on request).
- Lunch on the Fishermen's Island (on request).
- Visit to the botanical garden of Isola Madre (on request).
- Return to Stresa in the late afternoon.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Lake Orta
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Short drive to Lake Orta.
- Stroll through the village of Orta San Giulio, its lanes and its lakeside square.
- Boat crossing to the island of San Giulio and its basilica (on request).
- Lunch in a village restaurant (on request).
- Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: Villa Taranto and free time in Stresa
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Guided visit to the Villa Taranto gardens in Verbania (on request).
- Free afternoon in Stresa to stroll along the lake promenade.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 5: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Morning departure with two drivers on board.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Return to your region in the evening.
