A 7-day stay in De Panne: wide beaches, the Westhoek dunes, shrimp fishermen on horseback, Veurne and Ypres.
At the western end of the Belgian coast, De Panne has one of the widest beaches in the country and vast protected dunes in the Westhoek nature reserve. This is where King Leopold I first set foot in Belgium in 1831, and a monument marks his arrival. Your group stays six nights in the same 3-star hotel with lift, on half board, and discovers at its own pace Koksijde and the ruins of the Dunes Abbey, Oostduinkerke and its shrimp fishermen on horseback, a tradition recognised by UNESCO, as well as Veurne and Ypres. A free day in the middle of the stay leaves time to enjoy the beach. A restful stay of nature and heritage, close to the French border.
Programme
Day 1: Drive to De Panne
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Drive to the coast (our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break).
- Check-in at the hotel for 6 nights and first stroll on the seafront.
Day 2: De Panne
- Stroll along the seafront to the Leopold I monument.
- Guided walk in the dunes of the Westhoek nature reserve (on request)
- Free afternoon on the beach.
Day 3: Koksijde and Oostduinkerke
- Visit of the Dunes Abbey museum and the ruins of the Cistercian abbey in Koksijde (on request)
- Lunch booked in the area (on request)
- Visit of the NAVIGO fisheries museum in Oostduinkerke (on request)
- Demonstration of shrimp fishing on horseback, depending on tides and season (on request)
Day 4: Free day
- Free day in De Panne (driver’s rest day).
- Coast Tram pass (on request)
Day 5: Veurne and Ypres
- Morning in Veurne: market square, town hall and belfry.
- Lunch booked in Ypres (on request)
- Visit of the In Flanders Fields Museum (on request)
- Stop at the Menin Gate, then return to the hotel.
Day 6: Sint-Idesbald and free time
- Visit of the Paul Delvaux Museum in Sint-Idesbald (on request)
- Free afternoon and last dinner at the hotel.
Day 7: Return
- Breakfast, then departure in the late morning.
- Return journey (our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break).
- Arrival in your area in the late afternoon.
