The Hague, seat of the Dutch government and the International Court of Justice, between Vermeer and the North Sea.
The Hague is the political heart of the Netherlands and a world capital of international law. Around the Binnenhof, pupils see where the Dutch parliament and government sit, then, at the Peace Palace, learn how the International Court of Justice settles disputes between states. At the Mauritshuis, they stand before Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring and Rembrandt's Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicolaes Tulp. The day ends in the fresh air on Scheveningen beach. The programme suits history, citizenship, art and language lessons for pupils aged 14 to 18.
