The nineteen windmills of Kinderdijk to understand the fight against water, then Delft, home of Vermeer and Delft Blue.

A quarter of the Netherlands lies below sea level: at Kinderdijk, pupils discover how people won land from the water. The nineteen 18th-century windmills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the modern pumping stations tell three centuries of polder management. In the afternoon, Delft reveals its Market Square, its New Church where William of Orange and members of the royal family are buried, and the famous blue pottery made there since the 17th century. Pupils link science, geography, history and art. The trip suits pupils from about 10 to 16.
