Three days in Hamburg: the great harbour, the Speicherstadt warehouses, the Elbphilharmonie and Miniatur Wunderland.
Hamburg, Germany’s second city, lives to the rhythm of one of Europe’s largest ports. Pupils explore the Speicherstadt, a brick warehouse district listed by UNESCO together with the Kontorhaus district, and cross the Elbe on foot through the old tunnel of 1911. A harbour boat tour shows world trade and container shipping in a very concrete way. Miniatur Wunderland, the largest model railway in the world, fascinates all ages, and the BallinStadt Emigration Museum tells the story of the millions of Europeans who left for America. This trip suits pupils aged 11 to 18, for geography, history and German.
