Four days in the north of the Netherlands: the Afsluitdijk, the Pieterburen seals, mudflat walking and Bourtange.

This trip takes pupils to the north of the Netherlands across the Afsluitdijk, a 32-kilometre dike completed in 1932 that closed off the former Zuiderzee. In Pieterburen, on the Wadden Sea, they visit the seal centre and, with a licensed guide, can walk on the mudflats at low tide. Groningen, a very young university city full of bicycles, offers the Martini Tower and the colourful Groninger Museum. Bourtange fortress, a star-shaped citadel from the Eighty Years’ War, makes military history very tangible. This trip suits geography, biology and history lessons, from the end of primary school to secondary.
