Nine days of history in Slovenia: the 1915–1917 Isonzo Front, a hidden partisan hospital, the Idrija mine and Ljubljana.
In the Soča Valley, pupils discover a First World War front still little known in Belgium: from 1915 to 1917, Italy and Austria-Hungary fought twelve Battles of the Isonzo here. The Kobarid Museum, the historical trail and the Ravelnik trenches make this history very tangible, and the writer Ernest Hemingway described it in A Farewell to Arms. The Second World War is covered at the Franja Partisan Hospital, hidden deep in a gorge, and then in Ljubljana, before looking at Slovenia’s independence in 1991. The Idrija mercury mine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, completes the trip with a look at industrial history and science. A remembrance trip for history and citizenship lessons in the upper years of secondary school.
