Six days in Franconia with a single hotel in Nuremberg: Würzburg Residence, Bamberg, Rothenburg and Dinkelsbühl.
Franconia, in northern Bavaria, is a land of intact medieval towns, vineyards and family breweries. Your group stays five nights in the same hotel in Nuremberg, so there is no need to repack every morning. Excursions remain short, about an hour’s drive away: Bamberg and its UNESCO-listed old town, Rothenburg ob der Tauber and its ramparts, Dinkelsbühl and its colourful façades. On the way there, the Prince-Bishops’ Residence in Würzburg, also a UNESCO site, offers a prestigious first stop. A free day in Nuremberg, without the coach, lets everyone rest and stroll at their own pace.
Programme
Day 1: Würzburg and Nuremberg
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Journey with regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Lunch at a restaurant on the way (on request).
- Arrival in Würzburg in the early afternoon.
- Guided tour of the Würzburg Residence and its monumental staircase (on request).
- Drive to Nuremberg (about 1 hour 15 minutes).
- Check-in at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Nuremberg, imperial city
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Guided tour of Nuremberg: Imperial Castle, main market square and Beautiful Fountain, St Lawrence’s Church, Albrecht Dürer’s house (outside) (on request).
- Lunch of grilled Nuremberg sausages in a traditional restaurant (on request).
- Free time in the old town.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3: Bamberg, Little Venice
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Bamberg (about 1 hour).
- Guided tour of Bamberg: old town hall on the Regnitz, the cathedral and its Bamberg Horseman, Little Venice (on request).
- Group lunch at a restaurant (on request).
- Tasting of smoked beer (Rauchbier), a Bamberg speciality (on request).
- Return to Nuremberg in the late afternoon.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 4: Free day in Nuremberg
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Free day to stroll at your own pace, without the coach (driver’s rest day).
- Ideas: Germanic National Museum, the main square market, a walk along the Pegnitz.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 5: Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Dinkelsbühl
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Rothenburg ob der Tauber (about 1 hour 15 minutes).
- Guided tour of Rothenburg: Market Square, town hall, ramparts and castle garden (on request).
- Group lunch at a restaurant (on request).
- In the afternoon, stop in Dinkelsbühl and walk through its old town of colourful houses.
- Return to Nuremberg.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 6: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Morning departure.
- Journey with regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Lunch at a restaurant on the way (on request).
- Return journey with regular breaks, arriving in your region in the evening.
