Compiègne and Pierrefonds in one day: Napoleon III’s palace, the Armistice Glade and a medieval castle restored by Viollet-le-Duc.

In the heart of the Compiègne forest, this day brings together three faces of French history. The Palace of Compiègne, residence of Louis XV and later of Napoleon I and Napoleon III, has kept its Second Empire apartments and salons. In the Armistice Glade, a memorial and a replica of the railway carriage recall the signing of 11 November 1918. Finally, the Château de Pierrefonds, entirely rebuilt by Viollet-le-Duc for Napoleon III, raises its towers as if from a picture book. The coach links the three sites in a few minutes, for a rich day without any rush.

Programme

  • Arrival in Compiègne in the late morning and guided tour of the imperial apartments of the palace (on request).

  • Short coach ride to the Armistice Glade and visit of the memorial and its carriage (on request).
  • Drive through the forest to Pierrefonds and free visit of the castle and its restored halls.
  • Free time by the Pierrefonds lake for a coffee break.
  • Return in the evening to your region.

  • Walking level: moderate (stairs in the castles, slope on arrival at Pierrefonds; ground-floor sections possible).
  • The Palace of Compiègne is closed on Tuesdays; opening days and hours of the memorial and Pierrefonds castle to be checked.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
