Eight days in Lower Styria: a stay in Laško, spa and brewing town, Celje castle, the glacial Logar Valley and Olimje.

On the banks of the Savinja, Laško is a small spa town known for its warm waters and its beer, ideal for a restful five-night stay in the same hotel. From there your group discovers Celje, former seat of the powerful Counts of Celje, whose fortress overlooks the town, and the Žalec valley, land of hops. One day is devoted to the Logar Valley, one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in the Alps, framed by limestone peaks and mountain farms. Olimje Monastery, with its old pharmacy and painted ceilings, and its craft chocolate workshop make a final gourmet stop. A free day at the spa is planned for everyone’s rest and the driver’s; the climb to Celje Castle is by coach, followed by a gently sloping path.

Programme

Day 1: Journey to southern Germany

  • Morning departure from the place of your choice.
  • Journey with a coffee break and a lunch stop: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
  • Late-afternoon arrival at the stopover hotel in southern Germany, dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Over the Austrian Alps to Laško

  • Breakfast, then journey through Austria (Tauern and Karawanken tunnels) to Slovenia, with regular breaks.
  • Late-afternoon arrival in Laško, check-in at the hotel for 5 nights, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Celje and the hop valley

  • Breakfast at the hotel, then drive to Celje.
  • Guided tour of the Old Castle of the Counts of Celje and the old town (on request).
  • Seated lunch in Celje (on request).
  • In the afternoon, drive through the Savinja valley and its hop fields to Žalec.
  • Stop at the Žalec beer fountain and tasting of local beers (on request).
  • Return to Laško, dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Relaxing day in Laško

  • Free day in Laško (driver’s rest day): walk along the Savinja and free time in the little town.
  • Access to the thermal baths (on request).
  • Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 5: The Logar Valley

  • Breakfast, then drive to the Logar Valley, in the heart of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps.
  • Discovery of the valley, its meadows and mountain farms.
  • Optional short climb towards the Rinka waterfall, or free time at the head of the valley.
  • Lunch at a mountain farm inn (on request).
  • Return to Laško, dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Olimje and Podčetrtek

  • Breakfast, then drive to Olimje, near the Croatian border.
  • Visit of Olimje Monastery and its old pharmacy with painted ceilings (on request).
  • Visit of a craft chocolate workshop with tasting (on request).
  • Country lunch (on request).
  • Free time in Podčetrtek, then return to Laško, dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Journey back to southern Germany

  • Breakfast, then return journey through Austria with regular breaks.
  • Late-afternoon arrival at the stopover hotel in southern Germany, dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Return to Belgium

  • Breakfast, then journey to Belgium with a coffee break and a lunch stop.
  • Return in the evening to your region.

Good to know

  • Valid identity card and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each participant; bring enough of any medication you take.
  • Times adapted to your group’s pick-up point, from 20 participants, price on quotation; wheelchair users: please let us know when booking.
  • Walking level: easy to moderate (sloping path up to Celje Castle; the climb towards the Rinka waterfall is optional).
  • Best from May to early October, when the Logar Valley is accessible and green; to be checked each year.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
