A 6-day remembrance trip for secondary schools: Auschwitz-Birkenau with a museum guide, Kraków, Kazimierz and Podgórze.

This remembrance trip, to be prepared in class with the teachers, is intended for secondary pupils aged 14 and over, the age recommended by the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum. In Kraków, pupils first discover pre-war Jewish life in the Kazimierz district and its synagogues, then the Nazi occupation through the former Podgórze ghetto and the exhibition in Oskar Schindler’s former factory. The day in Oświęcim is devoted to Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau, visited with an educator-guide from the museum: more than a million people, the vast majority of them Jews, were murdered there. In the evening, a discussion time lets the young people express what they felt. Discovering the royal old town and Wawel also anchors the trip in present-day Poland. This programme suits history, ethics, religion and citizenship classes for pupils aged 14 to 18.
