A day in Antwerp to discover printing at the Plantin-Moretus Museum, the cathedral’s Rubens paintings and the MAS panorama.
In the 16th century, Antwerp was one of the richest cities in Europe and a major centre of printing. The Plantin-Moretus Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, preserves the workshop of the printer Christophe Plantin and the two oldest surviving printing presses in the world. In the Cathedral of Our Lady, pupils discover Rubens’s great paintings, including The Elevation of the Cross and The Descent from the Cross. The MAS (Museum aan de Stroom) and its rooftop offer a view over the city, the Scheldt and the port, one of the largest in Europe. This trip suits history, art and Dutch classes, from the last years of primary school to secondary school.
