The Waterloo battlefield, its Memorial and Panorama, then the romantic ruins of Villers-la-Ville Abbey.
On 18 June 1815, Napoleon fought his last battle at Waterloo: your group relives this historic day at the 1815 Memorial, a modern and comfortable museum built underground at the foot of the Lion’s Mound. The nearby Panorama, a huge circular painting from 1912, places visitors in the heart of the cavalry charge, without any effort. The climb up the Lion’s Mound has 226 steps: it is optional, and the view from the foot is already lovely. In the afternoon, the coach takes you to the ruins of the Cistercian abbey of Villers-la-Ville, one of the finest medieval sites in Belgium, with its medicinal herb garden. The ground at the abbey is sometimes uneven, but everyone can walk at their own pace or stay on the easier parts.
