Five days in Vichy for your group: the Parc des Sources, the cutlers of Thiers, the Puy de Dôme by train and Lake Chambon.
Vichy, queen of spa towns and listed by UNESCO among the Great Spa Towns of Europe, is an ideal base for seniors: level walks, bandstands, covered galleries and benches in the shade of plane trees. Your group tastes the spring waters and the famous pastilles, then discovers Thiers, the French capital of cutlery. The Puy de Dôme is climbed effortlessly by rack railway, for a panorama over the Chaîne des Puys, also UNESCO-listed. Clermont-Ferrand and its black lava-stone cathedral, then Saint-Nectaire and Lake Chambon complete this tour of the volcanoes. The outward and return journeys are long, but each day on site stays gentle, from a single hotel.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to Vichy
- Early morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice.
- Coffee break on the way; our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Sit-down lunch in a restaurant on the way (on request).
- Drive to the Auvergne with regular breaks.
- Arrival in Vichy in the late afternoon, check-in at a hotel in the Vichy area for 4 nights and dinner at the hotel.
Day 2: Vichy, the spa town, and Thiers
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Stroll in the Parc des Sources and tasting of the waters at the Hall des Sources.
- Guided tour of Vichy and its Art Nouveau opera house (on request).
- Free time to buy Vichy pastilles.
- Sit-down lunch in a restaurant in Vichy (on request).
- Drive to Thiers (about 40 minutes) and discovery of the hilltop old town.
- Visit to a cutler’s workshop in Thiers (on request).
- Return to the hotel and dinner.
Day 3: The Puy de Dôme and Clermont-Ferrand
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to the foot of the Puy de Dôme (about 1 hour).
- Ride to the summit aboard the Panoramique des Dômes rack railway, with views over the Chaîne des Puys.
- Sit-down lunch in a restaurant in Clermont-Ferrand (on request).
- Visit to the Volvic-stone cathedral and the Romanesque Basilica of Notre-Dame-du-Port.
- Return to the hotel and dinner.
Day 4: Saint-Nectaire and Lake Chambon
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Saint-Nectaire (about 1 hour 20) and visit to its Romanesque church.
- Visit to a Saint-Nectaire cheese farm with tasting (on request).
- Auvergne-style lunch in a restaurant by Lake Chambon (on request).
- Easy stroll along Lake Chambon, facing Murol Castle.
- Return to the hotel and dinner.
Day 5: Journey home
- Breakfast at the hotel, then journey home.
- Coffee break on the way; our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Sit-down lunch in a restaurant on the way (on request).
- Return in the evening to your region.

- Walking level: easy in Vichy; the old town of Thiers is on a slope. It is cool and windy at the top of the Puy de Dôme, so bring a jacket.
