Four days in the Yonne for your group: Auxerre on the river, Chablis wines, the basilica of Vézelay and the Guédelon castle site.
The Yonne is the part of Burgundy closest to Belgium, and within a few dozen kilometres it gathers very varied treasures. Your group discovers Auxerre, its quays and the Abbey of Saint-Germain with its Carolingian frescoes, then the slopes of Chablis and the medieval village of Noyers-sur-Serein. In Vézelay, the UNESCO-listed Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine overlooks the countryside from its hilltop: the street leading up is sloping, and the coach drops the group as close as possible. At Guédelon, craftspeople have been building a castle since 1997 using 13th-century techniques, a fascinating sight. One hotel, short drives and fine Burgundian cooking.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to Auxerre
- Morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice.
- Coffee break on the way; our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Sit-down lunch in a restaurant on the way (on request).
- Arrival in Auxerre and stroll along the Yonne quays facing the Cathedral of Saint-Étienne.
- Guided tour of the Abbey of Saint-Germain and its crypts (on request).
- Check-in at a hotel in the Auxerre area for 3 nights and dinner at the hotel.
Day 2: Chablis and Noyers-sur-Serein
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Chablis (about 30 minutes) through the vineyards.
- Visit to a Chablis cellar with tasting (on request).
- Burgundian lunch in a restaurant in Chablis (on request).
- Afternoon in Noyers-sur-Serein, a medieval village of half-timbered houses.
- Return to the hotel and dinner.
Day 3: Vézelay
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Vézelay (about 1 hour).
- Visit to the Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine and its famous tympanum.
- Guided tour of the basilica (on request).
- Sit-down lunch in a restaurant at the foot of the hill (on request).
- Free time in the village, then return to the hotel in the late afternoon and dinner.
Day 4: Guédelon and journey home
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Guédelon (about 45 minutes) and discovery of the castle building site and its craftspeople.
- Sit-down lunch in a restaurant on the way (on request).
- Journey home with a coffee break.
- Return in the evening to your region.

- Times adapted to your group’s pick-up point; trip available from 20 participants on the date of your choice, price on quotation; wheelchairs and reduced mobility: please tell us when booking.
- Walking level: moderate; sloping cobbled street in Vézelay and uneven earth ground at Guédelon. The Guédelon site is open from about March to November; dates to be checked each year.
