4 days between Verona and Lake Garda: the Roman arena, Juliet’s balcony, Sirmione castle and the Roman villa known as Catullus’ Grottoes.
Verona, a UNESCO World Heritage city, is an open-air history book. Pupils discover its 1st-century Roman arena, still used for opera, Piazza delle Erbe on the site of the ancient forum and Juliet’s House, which links the city to Shakespeare. Castelvecchio and its fortified bridge recall the era of the Della Scala family. On the shore of Lake Garda, Sirmione offers a castle surrounded by water and the remains of a large Roman villa, the “Grottoes of Catullus”. This trip is designed for secondary pupils studying history, Latin, literature and Italian.
