4 days in Genoa, a great Mediterranean port: its aquarium, the Galata Maritime Museum and the UNESCO-listed old town.

Genoa, a former maritime republic and, according to tradition, the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, tells the story of the Mediterranean and the age of discovery. Its aquarium, one of the largest in Europe, features sharks, dolphins, penguins and coral reefs, and is a great way to explore marine biodiversity and its protection. The Galata Maritime Museum brings seafaring to life, from Genoese galleys to emigration to the Americas in the 19th and 20th centuries, and pupils can step aboard a real submarine. In the old town, Via Garibaldi and the Palazzi dei Rolli, listed by UNESCO, show the wealth of the great merchant families. This trip suits upper primary and secondary pupils, for science, history and geography lessons.
