Thorn, the “white village” of whitewashed houses, then Roermond, its cathedral and the Meuse lakes, one hour from Liège.

An hour’s drive from Liège, Dutch Limburg offers a day of pure gentleness. Thorn, nicknamed the “white village”, lines up its whitewashed houses and cobbled lanes around the church of the former princely abbey, which long ruled this small territory. The village is easy to explore and its terraces invite a break. In the afternoon, Roermond, a cathedral city where the Roer meets the Meuse, offers a pleasant old town around St Christopher’s Cathedral and the Munsterkerk. A boat trip on the Maasplassen, lakes created by gravel extraction, or a little shopping completes the day, with an early evening return.

  • Departure in the morning from the place of your choice, at a comfortable time.

  • Arrival in Thorn in the late morning and walk through the white village.
  • Guided visit of the abbey church of Thorn (on request).

  • Drive to Roermond and walk through the old town: St Christopher’s Cathedral and the Munsterkerk.

Good to know

  • A valid identity card is required and a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is recommended.
  • Departure and return times are adapted to your group’s pick-up point; price on quotation, from 20 participants.
  • Walking level: easy (short walks on flat ground, frequent breaks).
  • The journey is short (about one hour from Liège): a slightly later departure and an early evening return are possible.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
