Nine days in little-known Poland: Kielce, Raj Cave, UNESCO-listed prehistoric mines, Sandomierz and Baranów.

Between Kraków and Warsaw, the Holy Cross Mountains and the Vistula valley remain off the main tourist routes, to the delight of curious travellers. Your group first discovers Kielce and its bishops’ palace, the Tokarnia village museum and the small Raj Cave with its rock formations. Heading east, the Krzemionki flint mines, worked more than 5,000 years ago and listed by UNESCO, and the giant ruins of Krzyżtopór Castle are impressive. Sandomierz, perched on a hill above the Vistula, charms with its Market Square, its cellars and its gentle way of life. Before heading home, the Renaissance castle of Baranów Sandomierski, nicknamed the “little Wawel”, rounds off this gently paced trip with overnight stops and a free day.
