A day at Planckendael, near Mechelen, to watch animals in large enclosures and learn about nature conservation.
Planckendael, in Muizen near Mechelen, is the animal park of ZOO Antwerpen, laid out around a castle and large green spaces. The animals live in spacious enclosures that recall their natural habitats, from Asian elephants to bonobos. Pupils learn to observe animal behaviour and discover the conservation work carried out by the Royal Zoological Society of Antwerp. The park’s large playgrounds also offer real moments of relaxation. This day is particularly suited to primary school pupils in science classes, and can also be used for Dutch-language practice.
