Three days in green Hainaut: the giants of Ath, Belœil and Attre castles, the Lessines hospital and Enghien park.
The Pays vert (’green country’), between Ath, Lessines and Enghien, is peaceful countryside dotted with castles, parks and folk traditions. In Ath, the House of Giants tells the story of the famous Ducasse, listed by UNESCO, before a visit to Attre Castle, an 18th-century residence with intact interiors. Belœil Castle, home of the Princes of Ligne for centuries, impresses with its rooms, its library and its vast French gardens. In Lessines, the Notre-Dame à la Rose hospital, founded in the 13th century, moves visitors with its authenticity, and the trip ends in the beautiful park of Enghien. Journeys are short, the park paths are flat and the pace stays very gentle.
Programme
Day 1: Ath and Attre Castle
- Departure in the morning from the pick-up point of your choice.
- Coffee break on the way; our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Arrival in Ath in the late morning.
- Visit of the House of Giants (on request).
- Reserved lunch in Ath (on request).
- Guided tour of Attre Castle and stroll in its park (on request).
- Check-in at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Belœil and Lessines
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Guided tour of Belœil Castle, home of the Princes of Ligne (on request).
- Gentle stroll in the castle’s French gardens.
- Reserved lunch in the area (on request).
- Visit of the Notre-Dame à la Rose hospital in Lessines (on request).
- Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3: Enghien park and return
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Enghien and stroll through the park, its gardens and pavilions.
- Visit of the Maison Jonathas and its Enghien tapestries (on request).
- Reserved lunch in Enghien (on request).
- Return journey in the afternoon, arriving back in your area in the evening.

- Belœil and Attre castles are open mainly from April to October (days and times to be checked each year); the Ath Ducasse takes place in late August.
