Deventer’s Dickens Festijn as a group: the Bergkwartier turned into Victorian England, alive with Dickens characters.
For just one weekend a year, in mid-December, Deventer’s Bergkwartier travels back to 19th-century England. Several hundred costumed performers bring the characters of Charles Dickens’s novels to life: Scrooge, Oliver Twist, chimney sweeps, police officers and ladies in crinolines. Your group follows the route through the cobbled lanes of the district, among carol singers and period shop windows. In the centre, St Lebuinus Church and the Brink square recall the town’s rich Hanseatic past. You head home with a Deventer koek, the local spiced cake.
Programme
- Early morning departure from the location of your choice, with a break on the way.
- Arrival in Deventer and entry to the Dickens Festijn in the Bergkwartier.
- Free time along the route, among Dickens characters and carol singers.
- Group lunch in a restaurant in the centre (on request).
- Walk on the Brink and visit to St Lebuinus Church (on request).
- Deventer koek tasting (on request).
- Return by coach in the evening to your region.

Good to know
- A valid identity card is required for each participant.
- The Dickens Festijn takes place on only one weekend a year, in mid-December: check the dates each year before booking; it is extremely busy and there is often a queue to enter the route.
- Departure and return times are adapted to your group’s pick-up point; bring warm clothes and comfortable shoes.
