Three days in Lorraine: Metz Cathedral and its stained glass, Place Stanislas, Art Nouveau and the sweet treats of Nancy.
Lorraine is close by and holds lovely surprises for those who take their time. In Metz, Saint-Étienne Cathedral, nicknamed “the Good Lord’s lantern”, has one of the largest areas of stained glass in Europe, including windows by Marc Chagall. In Nancy, Place Stanislas, with its gilded wrought-iron gates and fountains, forms a UNESCO-listed ensemble with Place de la Carrière and Place d’Alliance. The École de Nancy museum tells the story of Art Nouveau through furniture, Gallé vases and stained glass. Two nights in the same hotel, a little train to avoid long walks, and some bergamots and macarons just for the pleasure.
Programme
Day 1: Metz and drive to Nancy
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Drive to Metz with regular breaks: our drivers drive no more than 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break.
- Lunch at a restaurant in Metz (on request).
- Guided tour of Saint-Étienne Cathedral and its stained glass (on request).
- Visit of the Centre Pompidou-Metz (on request).
- Drive to Nancy (about 45 minutes), check-in at the hotel for two nights and dinner.
Day 2: Nancy, Stanislas’s city
- Breakfast, then guided tour of Place Stanislas, Place de la Carrière and the old town (on request).
- City tour by little tourist train (on request).
- Lunch at a restaurant (on request).
- Guided tour of the École de Nancy museum (on request).
- Free time to taste Nancy bergamots and macarons, then dinner at the hotel.
- Sound and light show on Place Stanislas, in summer (on request).
Day 3: Free morning and return
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Free morning to stroll through the covered market or the Pépinière park.
- Lunch at a restaurant (on request).
- Return journey in the early afternoon, arriving in your region in the late afternoon.
