In the Bay of the Somme, pupils watch the birds of the Parc du Marquenterre and the seals, then discover Saint-Valery-sur-Somme.
The Bay of the Somme is one of the most beautiful estuaries in Europe and an important stopover for migratory birds. At the Parc du Marquenterre, a bird reserve of more than 200 hectares of dunes, marshes and pine woods, pupils follow trails dotted with observation hides and learn to recognise the species. At low tide, the Pointe du Hourdel often offers sightings of seals resting on the sandbanks. The day ends in Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, a small medieval town from which William the Conqueror set sail for England in 1066. An ideal nature outing for primary school and the first years of secondary school, in science and geography.
