Valkenburg’s underground Christmas markets as a group: chalets in marlstone caves, a castle ruin and an illuminated town.

Just a few kilometres from the Belgian border, Valkenburg becomes the “Christmas town” of the Netherlands every winter. Its Christmas markets are held underground, in marlstone galleries dug out over the centuries: the Gemeentegrot, with sculptures and drawings in the rock, and the Fluweelengrot, beneath the castle ruin. The temperature stays at around ten degrees whatever the weather outside. Above ground, the illuminated centre and its shopping streets are perfect for a stroll and a slice of Limburg vlaai. On certain evenings, an illuminated Christmas parade winds through the streets.

Programme

  • Visit to the Christmas market in the Fluweelengrot, beneath the castle ruin.

  • Illuminated Christmas parade through the streets of Valkenburg, on the evenings it takes place.
  • Return by coach in the evening to your region.

Good to know

  • A valid identity card is required for each participant.
  • The cave markets run from mid-November to late December and the parade only on certain evenings: dates to be checked each year; cave admission is charged and weekends are very busy.
  • Departure and return times are adapted to your group’s pick-up point; bring warm clothes and comfortable shoes.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
