A gentle day in Maastricht: old town, Vrijthof square, a cruise on the Meuse and the marl caves, just across the Belgian border.
Just across the border, Maastricht is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands and perhaps the most Burgundian. Your group discovers Vrijthof square, the Basilica of Saint Servatius and Saint John’s Church with its red tower, then the cobbled lanes around Onze Lieve Vrouweplein. A cruise on the Meuse lets you admire the city comfortably seated, and the caves of Mount Saint Peter tell the story of centuries of marl quarrying. The journey is short, the pace relaxed and lunch can be booked in a restaurant in the old town. There is always time left for a terrace, a slice of vlaai and a little shopping.
Programme
- Departure in the morning from the place of your choice, at a comfortable time.
- Safety: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Arrival in Maastricht in the late morning.
- Guided walk through the old town: Vrijthof, Basilica of Saint Servatius and Onze Lieve Vrouweplein (on request).
- A look inside the Dominicanen bookshop, set in a Gothic church.
- Lunch in a restaurant in the old town (on request).
- Guided cruise on the Meuse (on request).
- Guided visit of the Mount Saint Peter caves, by coach to the entrance (on request).
- Free time to stroll, have a coffee and taste vlaai, the Limburg fruit tart.
- Return by coach in the evening to your region.

- Inside the caves the temperature stays around 10 °C all year round: bring a light jacket.
