Five days in Lyon: Fourvière, Lugdunum, the traboules of Old Lyon, the Musée des Confluences, the Lumières and silk weavers.
Lyon lets pupils travel through two thousand years of history in a single UNESCO-listed city. On Fourvière hill, the Roman theatres and the Lugdunum museum recall that the city was one of the capitals of Roman Gaul. In Old Lyon, pupils walk through the traboules, typical passageways between buildings, then discover in the Croix-Rousse district the history of the canuts, the silk workers. The Musée des Confluences links natural science and human societies, and the Institut Lumière tells the story of the birth of cinema in 1895. The programme suits secondary-school pupils in history, science and French.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to Lyon
- Departure from your school at the agreed time, with two drivers on board.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break, day and night.
- Arrival in Lyon at the end of the day.
- Check-in at the accommodation and dinner.
Day 2: Fourvière and Old Lyon
- Breakfast.
- Funicular ride up to the Fourvière Basilica and view over the city.
- Visit of the Lugdunum museum and the Roman theatres (on request).
- Walk through Old Lyon and its traboules.
- Dinner and overnight at the accommodation.
Day 3: Confluences and cinema
- Breakfast.
- Visit of the Musée des Confluences (on request).
- Walk on the Presqu’île: Place Bellecour and Place des Terreaux.
- Visit of the Lumière Museum, birthplace of the cinematograph (on request).
- Dinner and overnight at the accommodation.
Day 4: Croix-Rousse and the Parc de la Tête d’Or
- Breakfast.
- Climb to the Croix-Rousse and discovery of the Mur des Canuts mural.
- Visit of the Maison des Canuts and weaving demonstration (on request).
- Afternoon in the Parc de la Tête d’Or and its zoo.
- Dinner and overnight at the accommodation.
Day 5: Return
- Breakfast.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break, day and night.
- Return to school in the evening.

Good to know
- Identity card (Kids-ID for children under 12) and parental consent for travel abroad for each pupil, as well as the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
- Times adapted to your school; pupils are supervised by the accompanying teachers.
- Bring good shoes: Lyon is best explored on foot, with some steep climbs.
