A 6-day stay in L'Estartit on the Costa Brava: 3 nights near the sea, the Medes Islands by boat, Empúries and the anchovies of L'Escala.
For a first holiday in Spain without too much driving, L'Estartit is a quiet, family-friendly resort in the north of the Costa Brava. Your group stays 3 nights in a hotel near the sea, facing the Medes Islands, a marine reserve explored by glass-bottomed boat. An excursion leads to the Greek and Roman ruins of Empúries, set right by the water, then to the port of L'Escala, famous for its anchovies. Walks are on the flat along the seafront, and the rest of the time is free for the beach or a café terrace. The route runs through the Rhône valley, with a stopover night in the Lyon area on the way out and back.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to France
- Morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Coffee break on the way and free lunch at a service area or roadside restaurant.
- Arrival in the Lyon area in the late afternoon and check-in at the hotel for a stopover night.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Drive to the Costa Brava
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive into Spain via the Rhône valley and Perpignan.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Arrival in L'Estartit in the late afternoon and check-in at the hotel near the sea for 3 nights.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: L'Estartit and the Medes Islands
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- A day without the coach (driver's rest day).
- Walk along the seafront and around the port of L'Estartit.
- Glass-bottomed boat trip around the Medes Islands, a protected marine reserve (on request).
- Free afternoon on the beach.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: Empúries and L'Escala
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Empúries (about 20 minutes).
- Visit to the Greek and Roman archaeological site of Empúries, by the sea (on request).
- Lunch in a restaurant in L'Escala (on request).
- Tasting of L'Escala anchovies, the port's speciality (on request).
- On the way back, stop in Torroella de Montgrí and its arcaded square.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 5: Journey to France
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to France and stopover night in the Lyon area.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 6: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Return journey to Belgium.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Return to your region in the evening.

- Recommended from May to September (boat trips depending on the weather); the Empúries site is open-air on uneven ground: bring a hat and comfortable shoes.
