A magical evening in Gouda: the Market Square lit by candles, the big Christmas tree, a cheese tasting and dinner.

One evening in December, Gouda switches off its street lights: the market square and its Gothic town hall are lit only by thousands of candles, around a huge Christmas tree. This tradition, “Gouda bij Kaarslicht”, gives your team a rare and moving moment, among carols and market stalls. The afternoon is devoted to discovering the town and its famous cheese, before a friendly team dinner. Coach, activities and meals: we organise everything on a turnkey basis, from 20 participants, on the date of your choice, and adapt the day to your budget and group size.

Programme

  • Coach departure from outside your company, at the agreed time.
  • Drive to Gouda: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
  • Arrival in Gouda in the afternoon.
  • Guided tour of the historic centre and St John’s Church and its stained-glass windows (on request).
  • Gouda cheese tasting (on request).
  • Free time at the Christmas market.
  • In the evening, the “Gouda bij Kaarslicht” ceremony: the Market Square lit by candles.
  • Team dinner in a city-centre restaurant (on request).
  • Return journey and arrival back at your company in the evening.

Good to know

  • A valid identity card is required for each participant (trip to the Netherlands).
  • Departure and return times are adapted to your company’s working hours; several pick-up points are possible.
  • “Gouda bij Kaarslicht” takes place on a single evening in mid-December: the date is to be checked each year.
  • Bring warm clothes; the square is very busy in the evening.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
