A day in Ghent: the Van Eyck brothers’ Mystic Lamb, Gravensteen Castle and the Graslei quays seen from the boat.
Ghent is one of the finest historic cities in Flanders, and one of the liveliest. In St Bavo’s Cathedral, your group discovers the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, the famous altarpiece painted by the Van Eyck brothers and completed in 1432. A boat trip on the River Leie then reveals the guild houses of the Graslei and Korenlei and the outline of Gravensteen Castle, all from a comfortable seat. Lunch can be booked in a restaurant in the centre, and free time leaves room to taste “cuberdons”, Ghent’s famous sweets. The pace stays relaxed from departure to return, with a coach that drops you as close as possible to the sights.
