Two peaceful days in the Antwerp Campine: Zimmer Tower clocks, Tongerlo Abbey, playing cards and béguinages.
The Antwerp Campine is a land of heather, pine woods and quiet small towns where time seems to slow down. In Lier, your group discovers the Zimmer Tower and its astonishing astronomical clocks, then the béguinage, one of the most charming in Flanders. Tongerlo Abbey keeps a famous early copy of Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper, displayed in a small museum. The next day, Turnhout, capital of playing cards, and Hoogstraten, with its spectacular church tower, complete the tour of UNESCO-listed béguinages. The land is flat, distances are short and walking is easy, making this an ideal trip for every pace.
Programme
Day 1: Lier and Tongerlo
- Departure in the morning from the pick-up point of your choice.
- Coffee break on the way; our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Arrival in Lier in the late morning.
- Visit of the Zimmer Tower and its astronomical clocks (on request).
- Gentle stroll through the Lier béguinage and along the Nete.
- Reserved lunch in Lier (on request).
- Visit of the Leonardo da Vinci Museum at Tongerlo Abbey (on request).
- Check-in at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Turnhout and Hoogstraten
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Visit of the National Playing Card Museum in Turnhout (on request).
- Stroll through the Turnhout béguinage.
- Reserved lunch in the area (on request).
- Stop in Hoogstraten: béguinage and St Catherine’s Church with its tall brick tower.
- Return journey in the afternoon, arriving back in your area in the evening.
