A day just across the border: the béguinage and Grote Kerk of Breda, then the small fortified town of Heusden.
Less than an hour from Antwerp, Breda is a lively and pleasant town, the cradle of the House of Nassau in the Netherlands. In the Grote Kerk, built in Brabantine Gothic style, lies the Renaissance tomb of Engelbert II of Nassau, and the nearby béguinage, still inhabited, hides a lovely herb garden. After a seated lunch, your group continues to Heusden, a small fortified town on the Meuse, with its restored ramparts, windmills and marina. Everything is flat and over short distances, with free time for a coffee on a terrace. It is an ideal outing for a first day in the Netherlands, with little driving.
