An 8-day tour of Upper Bavaria for your group: the Chiemsee islands, the Königssee, the Berchtesgaden salt mine and Munich.
Between lakes and Alpine peaks, Upper Bavaria offers picture-postcard scenery and a warm way of life. On the Chiemsee, nicknamed the “Bavarian Sea”, boats sail to the Herreninsel, where Ludwig II built Herrenchiemsee Palace on the model of Versailles, and to the Fraueninsel and its Benedictine abbey. Below the Watzmann, the Königssee is explored by electric boat as far as the church of St. Bartholomä, with a trumpet echoing off the rock walls. Berchtesgaden adds its salt mine, visited by sliding down wooden miners’ slides. The tour ends in Munich, between Marienplatz, the Frauenkirche and the Viktualienmarkt, with an overnight stop on the way out and back for a relaxed journey.
Programme
Day 1: To Franconia
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Drive to southern Germany, with regular breaks (3 hours’ driving maximum, then a 30-minute break).
- Overnight stop in the Würzburg area.
Day 2: To the Chiemsee
- Breakfast, then drive to Upper Bavaria with regular breaks.
- Arrival in the Chiemsee area and check-in at the hotel for 4 nights.
- First stroll along the lakeshore.
Day 3: The Chiemsee islands
- Breakfast, then drive to Prien am Chiemsee.
- Boat crossing to the Herreninsel and the Fraueninsel (on request).
- Guided tour of Herrenchiemsee Palace (on request).
- Walk on the Fraueninsel, around the Benedictine abbey and the fishing village.
- Return to the hotel.
Day 4: Königssee and Berchtesgaden
- Breakfast, then drive to the Berchtesgaden area.
- Electric boat trip on the Königssee to St. Bartholomä (on request).
- Free time in the centre of Berchtesgaden.
- Visit of the Berchtesgaden salt mine (on request).
- Return to the hotel.
Day 5: Free day by the lake
- Free day without the coach (driver’s rest day): walks, relaxation or swimming.
- Bavarian evening with traditional music (on request).
Day 6: Munich
- Breakfast, then drive to Munich.
- Guided tour of the centre: Marienplatz and the New Town Hall Glockenspiel, Frauenkirche and Residenz (on request).
- Free time at the Viktualienmarkt.
- Group dinner in a traditional beer hall (on request).
- Check-in at the hotel in Munich.
Day 7: Nymphenburg and northward
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Visit of Nymphenburg Palace (on request).
- Drive north with regular breaks and overnight stop in the Frankfurt area.
Day 8: Return
- Breakfast, then return journey with regular breaks.
- Arrival back in your area in the afternoon.
