Arnhem in a day: old Holland at the Open Air Museum, then the sites of the 1944 battle in Oosterbeek.
North of Arnhem, the Netherlands Open Air Museum brings together farms, windmills, workshops and houses from every region of the Netherlands in a large wooded park. Craftspeople and costumed characters bring the trades of the past back to life, and a historic tram runs through the park to limit walking. The afternoon is devoted to the memory of September 1944: the Airborne Museum Hartenstein in Oosterbeek, the war cemetery and the John Frost Bridge, made famous by the film “A Bridge Too Far”. The park is large and gently hilly, but everyone can adapt their route and sit down often. A day full of memories, to be shared together.
